What is the difference between three-way merging control valves and three-way diverging control valves?

What is a three-way control valve?

Three-way control valves, available in merging and diverging forms, consist of a pneumatic/electric actuator and a three-way merging or three-way diverging control valve. There are electric three-way control valves and pneumatic three-way control valves commonly used.

This product features a compact structure, lightweight, sensitive action, accurate flow characteristics. It can directly accept the regulating instrument’s input (4-20mA DC 0-10mA DC or 1-5V DC) and other control signals. With a Single-phase power supply, it can control the operation to achieve automatic regulation and control of the processing pipeline fluid medium. This valve can be used to control gas, liquid, steam, and other media process parameters such as pressure, flow, temperature, level, and other parameters to maintain at a given value. It can be used to precisely control the process parameters such as pressure, flow rate, temperature, liquid level, and other parameters of gas, liquid, and steam media to maintain the given value, and is widely used in chemical, petroleum, metallurgy, power station, light textile, paper making, and pharmaceuticals and other industrial production processes of automatic regulation and remote control.

Three-way control valves are divided into two categories according to the fluid acts. One is three-way merging valves, and another is three-way diverging valves.

What are three-way merging control valves?

Three-way merging control valves have two inlets and flow out from one outlet after merging.

What is a three-way diverging control valve?

The diverting valve has one fluid inlet and flows out from two outlets after a diversion into two streams. When the nominal diameter DN ≤ 80mm and the differential pressure is small, the diverter valve can be replaced by the combined flow valve’s same diameter.

The structure of the merging three-way control valve is similar to that of the diverging three-way control valve.

When the nominal diameter DN ≤ 80mm and the differential pressure is small, the diverter valve can be replaced by the combined flow valve’s same diameter.

What is the difference between three-way merging control valves and three-way diverging control valves?

The trim position of the three-way combined flow control valve and three-way diverging control valve is different. The trim of the integrated flow valve is located within the two valve seats. While the trim of the diverging valve is located outside the two valve seats so that the trim’s design can make the flow direction in the flow open state, the combined flow control valve can be stable operation. Therefore, in general, the integrated flow control valve is used in the place of combined flow, and the diverter control valve is used in the business of diverter flow.

When the 3-way valve is installed in front of the heat exchanger, a split 3-way valve is used.

When the three-way valve is installed after the heat exchanger, a combined flow three-way valve is used. Less leakage because the fluid flowing through the 3-way valve installed in front of the heat exchanger has the same temperature.

The fluid flowing through the three-way valve installed after the heat exchanger has a different temperature and expands differently on the spool and seat. Therefore, the leakage is more significant. Usually, the temperature difference between the two fluids should not exceed 150°C.

The use of combined flow and shunt three-way valve is mainly related to the medium’s temperature regulation; if the opening of the adjustment three-way valve is to adjust the temperature of the medium in which the three-way valve is installed, the use of shunt three-way valve.

If the opening of the three-way valve adjusts the temperature of another course of media, it is suggested to use a merging three-way valve.
