The oil and gas sector is an international powerhouse that uses hundreds of thousands of employees globally and produces hundreds of billions of dollars globally every year.  However, the approaches and systems involved in generating and dispensing oil and gas are incredibly complex, capital-intensive, and require modern-day technology.

Keeping the flow of oil and gas in pipelines is a huge venture and calls for numerous reliable pieces of equipment. Oil and gas valves are one of these vital components. The oil and gas enterprise couldn’t refine crude oil, refined gas, natural gas, and different substances without gas valves.

A oil & gas valve is a tool used to regulate the flow of oil and gas. Opening or closing an aperture controls the range of liquids and gases. The valve controls the flow of fluids by stopping and starting, adjusting quantities, controlling direction, adjusting pressure, or releasing pressure. There are numerous varieties of oil and gas valves because of the unique environments in which they’re used.

    Oil & Gas Control Valve

Oil and Gas control valve is often chosen, if pressure control is required. It is often used for opening and closing operations. The valve plug is raised and lowered vertically when required. They generally tend to create a larger and more noticeable pressure drop due to the S-shaped passage. They are a great option for rate regulation and limiting capabilities.

    Oil & Gas Ball Valve

Oil & gas ball valves provide pipelines with quick shut-offs when tight sealing is required. They are suitable for operation in the fully open or fully closed position. This type of valve is available in various styles. These are easy to fix, provide a stable hold and offer quick closures.

    Oil & Gas Butterfly Valve

These oil &gas  valves are easy in their construction, is lightweight, and compact. A disk-like element is used to alter the flow. As a result, they are able to deal with high-pressure pipelines and effortlessly flow materials. When closed, they tightly close. These are used in large diameter pipes. Because gas valves are available in many different types and offer numerous functionalities, choosing the best one can be challenging.

    Oil & Gas Gate Valve

The gate valve is the most commonly used valve in the oil and gas industry. If the flow needs to be controlled and sustained, the gate valve is an excellent choice. When the actuator totally opens the valve, the channel is free, allowing liquid media to flow more easily. Although not an ideal valve for throttling, there is no noticeable pressure drop when using this valve.

Why Purchase Control Valve From BCST

    Oil & Gas Valve -FAQ

The different types of valves used in the petrochemical industry are suitable for any of the following applications:

    • Starts/stops the flowof fluid (hydrocarbons, oil, and gas, steam, water, acids) through the pipeline (example: gate valve, ball valve, butterfly valve, knife gate valve, or plug valve).

    • Modulate the flowof fluid through the pipeline.

    • Check fluid flow.

    • Change the directionof flow.

    • Regulate the pressureof a process (regulator).

    • Protecta piping system or device (pump, motor, tank) against overpressure or back pressure (non-return valve).

    • Filters debrisflowing through a pipeline to protect equipment that could be damaged by solid parts (Y-strainer and basket).

    Valve Type

    General Applications

    Globe Valve

Shut-off/regulation of liquid/gas flow. Suitable for steam and condensate.

    Usually manual, but may be:

Usually applied to higher pressure or high volume systems, due to cost. Incompatible with viscous or contaminated fluids.

    Piston Valve

Used fully open or fully closed for on/off control of steam, gas, and other fluid services. Typically used on fluids that cause excessive seat wear.

    Usually manual, but may be:

Usually used where the valve body is to be permanently installed and maintenance needs to be minimized.

    Gate Valve

Normally used fully open or fully closed for on/off control of water, oil, gas, steam, and other fluids.

    Usually manual, but may be:

Not recommended as a throttle valve. The solid wedge door is vibration and jam-free. Steam systems use parallel slide valves.

    Butterfly Valve

Shutoff and regulation in larger pipelines in waterworks, process industries, HPI, and power generation.

    Electric Motor

    Pneumatic Actuator

    Hydraulic Actuator

    Air Motor

Relatively simple construction. It can be produced in very large formats. The essential original design for the vapor system. Typically used on a liquid system.

    Ball Valve

Wide range of applications in all sizes including HPI.

    Electric Motor

    Pneumatic Actuator

    Hydraulic Actuator

Can handle all types of fluids. Limited maximum pressure rating.

A valve is made by assembling several mechanical parts, the most important of which are the body, the gasket (the combination of replaceable wet parts), the stem, the cover and a drive mechanism.

Valves with small-bore sizes (generally 2 inches) or that require high resistance to pressure and temperature they are made with forged steel bodies; commercial valves over 2 inches in diameter have cast body materials.

Continually expand the discharge steam line piping by at least one pipe diameter. Extending the discharge piping by at least two or three pipe diameters is not uncommon. Note that expanding the tubing reduces valve outlet velocities, thereby extending valve life. The valve manufacturer will supply the appropriate pipe size after the control valve. The pipe size should match the heat transfer inlet connection. Any heat transfer should be at least ten pipe diameters away from the steam control valve. In pressure-reducing applications, at least 20 horizontal pipe diameters should be left before changing flow direction.

The control valve must permanently be installed in a horizontal vapor line, never vertically.

Proper valve selection is more important under low flow operating conditions than under assumed high flow operating conditions.

Bypass valves must be used in the installation of the control valve. The bypass valve allows the personnel of the industrial facility to operate the process without the control valve if valve failure or maintenance is reactive, preventive, and predictive. Installing pressure gauges before and after the steam control valve allows for real-time line diagnostics. The importance of proper installation cannot be exaggerated. In many cases, the source of a troublesome startup can be traced to a control valve that is not correctly installed. It is strongly recommended that personnel with an instrumentation background be used to supervise the installation and setup of control valves.
